It’s officially the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history, affecting employees’ paychecks, vital services for small businesses and victims of crime.

The impasse between President Donald Trump and congressional Democrats over $5.7 billion in funding for a barrier at the U.S.-Mexico border has shut down nine departments and smaller agencies, putting more than 380,000 workers on furlough and forcing another 420,000 to work without pay.
