asheville_mall_redevelopment_2018(WLOS Channel 13 News)  The Asheville Planning and Zoning Commission voted Monday night to conditionally rezone nearly 16 acres at Asheville Mall from regional business to mixed-use expansion.

The property is for a proposed development at the old Sears Auto Center location.  Some of the conditions that must be met include 10 percent affordable housing for 15 years and better bike and pedestrian consideration.

Some members of the public voiced concerns about the development along South Tunnel Road.  “I’m sure all my neighbors will agree, we are already seeing a large backup of traffic,” one person said.
